The Congress of Neighborhoods is the Neighborhood Council system’s biggest event, bringing together over 1,000 local leaders annually at LA City Hall for a day of workshops and networking with City officials and other NC members. For this year’s event – happening Saturday, September 28th – the NC Congress Planning Committee invites you to submit names for both the In Memoriam program page, as well as the inaugural Waller Award for Outstanding Civic Engagement.

Waller Award nominations: Deadline extended to August 23rd

Nominations have been extended to Friday August 23, 2019 at 11:59 pm PST for the inaugural Waller Award, recognizing a person, NC, or organization working to increase participation in local government, and advance civic engagement. The Award will be presented at the Congress of Neighborhoods on Sept 28th. Email the name of the person/group you want to nominate and a few sentences about them to all three of these addresses: NCCongressLA@gmail.com, CindyCleghorn@gmail.com, and BrilliantEvents@earthlink.net

The Waller Award for Outstanding Civic Engagement is named for Randy Waller – longtime Los Angeles community advocate and member of both the Westlake South and Westlake North Neighborhood Councils, and the NC Congress Planning Committee. The award honors those who, like Randy, make extraordinary efforts on behalf of their neighborhoods.

In Memoriam submissions: Due September 15th

If you know of a Neighborhood Council leader who has passed away since September 2018, NC Congress invites you to share their name, a photo, and your memories about them for inclusion in an In Memoriam program page for this year’s Congress.

Please make sure that the families of the board members you would like to celebrate have granted permission to use their photo to honor their Neighborhood Council achievements.

Send materials to all three of these email addresses by Sunday, September 15th: NCCongressLA@gmail.com, CindyCleghorn@gmail.com, and BrilliantEvents@earthlink.net
