We’re proud to partner with local nonprofit Miry’s List on “Welcome, Neighbor:” a program utilizing the Neighborhood Council system to help Angelenos support their newest neighbors, refugee families resettling in LA. Welcome, Neighbor is one of 5 finalists for a $200,000 LA2050 grant, but your vote is needed to bring this money to fund Neighborhood Council efforts to assist refugees.

About Welcome, Neighbor

Los Angeles has been declared a sanctuary city by Mayor Garcetti and the City Council. Welcome, Neighbor translates this vision into action, one family at a time. Working in tandem with Neighborhood Councils across the City, the program will give Angelenos useful tools and actionable steps they can take to reach out to and support these individuals and families. The program has helped nearly 300 refugee families since it began last year. Winning an LA2050 grant would dramatically expand the number of people this program can help. Neighborhood Councils who want to participate will be able have the support of the Miry’s List organization to assist refugee families in their own communities.

What is LA2050 & what is the basis for this grant?

LA2050 is a community-guided initiative that aims to make LA the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live by the year 2050. The My LA2050 Activation Challenge – in which Welcome, Neighbor is a finalist – offers five winning organizations $200,000 each to make a tangible impact on one of these five aspects of life in Los Angeles by the year 2020.

About Miry’s List

Miry’s List – our partner on Welcome, Neighbor – is a nonprofit organization that grew out of the efforts of former Eagle Rock NC member Miry Whitehill and her fellow boardmembers to connect a community of volunteers with people who want to help refugees start new lives in the LA area.
