Keith Schwalenberg, who chaired the Studio City Neighborhood Council’s Homelessness Committee, will always be remembered for his passionate advocacy and compassionate leadership, by those who worked alongside him. He was commemorated for his outstanding community leadership by the Los Angeles City Council, in a special presentation by City Councilmember Paul Krekorian.

Some of his fellow Studio City NC members and homelessness advocates have shared their thoughts about Keith, in their own words:

Among the many capable and dedicated people with whom I served on the Board of the Studio City Neighborhood Council, Keith was singular in his ability to maintain his own sincerely held personal beliefs alongside an equally sincere willingness to listen carefully and with empathy to the opinions and experiences of others. His patience, compassionate objectivity, and profound ideal of inclusive Community are exemplary attributes of service that I miss dearly even as I am certain that the memory of Keith’s leadership will continue to inspire those of us with the good fortune to have known his kindness and genuine warmth of spirit. — Richard Welsh

Thank you for inspiring us to keep making a difference.
— Barbara Javitz

I remember his character. He was courageous, intelligent, and kind. Willing to do what was right in his heart even if it meant resistance from public opinion.
— Luis Oliart

As Chair of the SCNC Homelessness Committee Keith was able to bring people together to share his wonderful compassion and make a difference for the homeless, the community, and inspire those who worked with him. — Andrew Silver
